A published author on strategic employee communications, his previous corporate experience spans more than 30 years with Fortune 500 companies. It includes serving as head of Executive & Global Employee Communications for DuPont, SVP and Chief Communications Officer at Pepsi Beverages, PepsiCo Americas Foods and CCO for The Quaker Oats Company.

An adjunct professor at the University of Missouri School of Journalism, Mark began his career in broadcast and print journalism, working with ABC News and other print news outlets. He currently serves on the Forbes Communications Council and UVA’s Darden School of Business Communication Leadership Council. He previously served on the national advisory council of George Washington University’s School of Media and Public Affairs, served for eight years on LSU’s journalism advisory board for the Manship School of Communications, and has held a seat on The Conference Board’s Change & Transformation Council. He received a bachelor’s degree in Radio/TV from The George Washington University, and a master’s degree in organizational communications from Purdue University. He also is certified in Prosci Change Management.

Before launching And Then Communications, Sharon served as PepsiCo’s vice president of Global Internal Communications, overseeing the company’s efforts to connect with its more than 274,000 employees worldwide. She and her team launched a number of innovative employee initiatives, including the company’s first social media training (SMART U) and PepsiCo’s award-winning employee ambassador program.

Before joining PepsiCo, Sharon worked at Sears and Waste Management in various communications capacities, including media relations, speechwriting and corporate communications. She holds a master’s degree in leadership communications from DePaul University.

Committed to personal growth and learning, Sharon earned her Prosci accreditation in 2019, completed her iPEC coaching certification in 2021 and is an advisor to the Executive Communication Council.

Jon Stemmle

Jon Stemmle

Jon is a professor of strategic communication and former director of the Health Communication Research Center at the Missouri School of Journalism. He also has an appointment as an affiliate faculty

In his role as a professor, Stemmle has taught a wide range of classes dealing with topics such as public relations, health and science communication, social media, event planning and integrated marketing campaigns.

Stemmle’s work in the area of strategic health communication has been presented to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), European CDC, National Cancer Institute (NCI), and various health literacy groups around the nation. Since 2003, Stemmle has been part of grant projects totaling more than $30 million dealing with topics such as health and science literacy, cancer prevention communications and photovoice.

In 2022, his co-authored book on employee communication was published by Routledge entitled “Engaging Employees through Strategic Communication: Skills, Strategies, and Tactics.”

His career began in journalism with the Asbury Park Press in New Jersey and continued at newspapers around the country for nearly a decade. Stemmle has been involved with public relations and strategic communication for nearly 20 years.

Stemmle has a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Arizona (1997) and undergraduate degrees in history and communications from Virginia Wesleyan College (1993).

Student Enrollment Agreement and Release AI for Communicators: Courses 1, 2 and 3

This Student Enrollment Agreement (this “Agreement”), is a binding agreement between you, the Student (“Student”), and North Star Communications Consulting, Inc. (“North Star”) with regard to a single enrollment in any of Course 1, 2, or 3 of the North Star AI for Communicators Courses (the “Course”). This Agreement becomes binding and effective upon the Student accepting  its terms, indicated by [Student’s signature below or electronic signature or clicking the “Accept” button below].

The Student and North Star agree as follows:

  1. STUDENT ACCESS TO COURSE AND MATERIALS: Upon successful registration and payment of the required Course fee, Student shall be entitled to attend all sessions of the Course session for which Student is registered and shall be entitled to receive all materials distributed or otherwise made available by North Star in connection with the Course.
  1. NO EDUCATIONAL CREDIT: North Star is not affiliated with or approved by any educational or vocational institution or government entity. No credit toward any degree or certification of any kind is offered in connection with the Course.
  1. COURSE PURPOSE/LIMITATIONS/OBLIGATIONS: North Star offers the Course including all instruction and materials for the sole purpose of educating students concerning possible uses of Artificial Intelligence (“AI”). North Star does not recommend, advocate, endorse or suggest any particular use of AI, appropriate use of which shall be solely at the discretion of Student. Students shall abide by all applicable laws, regulations or policies of any state, nation, or employer relating to their use of AI. North Star shall have no liability or responsibility for Student’s use of AI and Student hereby releases North Star, its instructors, employees, officers, Directors and owners and any of their agents from any and all liability arising from, accruing from or otherwise relating to Student’s use of AI.
  1. TUITION NON-REFUNDABLE/REGISTRATION NON-TRANFERABLE: Tuition for the Course including any applicable taxes, must be received by North Star before the Student will be registered for the Course and shall be non-refundable. Registrations shall be personal to each Student and may not be transferred to any other person except that a business entity paying tuition for an employee may be permitted to transfer registration to another employee of that same business entity.
  1. COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS: North Star will send Students who complete the Course a Certificate of Completion which shall state only that the Student successfully completed the Course. In order to receive a Certificate of Completion, the Student must attend all sessions, complete all Course exercises and complete a short survey when the last module of each course is finished. Students also will receive a digital badge upon completion of each course. Missed sessions may be made up either through viewing on-demand videos of previous recorded sessions if available or, if available, another live offering of the missed session. Requests for access to recorded sessions or to attend an alternate live session, if available, must be made in writing within seven days of the missed session.
  1. CANCELLATION/POSTPONEMENT: In the event North Star cancels the Course for any reason, Student shall be entitled to a refund of all fees paid for the Course. Student will be notified in the event individual Course sessions must be rescheduled for any reason and shall be given the opportunity to attend alternate sessions or to view recorded sessions in the event they are unable to attend the rescheduled session.
  1. COURSE MATERIALS. The copyright and all other rights in Course materials are and shall remain the exclusive property of North Star and are licensed to Student for use in connection with the Course and for personal future reference only. Course materials may not be reproduced, displayed, distributed, shared, altered or otherwise used in any other manner without North Star’s express written permission.
  1. GROUNDS FOR TERMINATION: Breach of this Agreement shall be grounds for termination of Student’s enrollment and denial of access to Course sessions without refund.
  1. NO GUARANTEE: COMPLETION OF THE COURSE DOES NOT GUARANTEE FUTURE EMPLOYMENT, ADVANCEMENT, PROMOTION, OR INCREASED COMPENSATION. NORTH STAR HAS NOT MADE ANY PROMISE TO STUDENT, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, REGARDING ANY OPPORTUNITIES THAT COULD BE AVAILABLE TO THE STUDENT AS A RESULT OF COMPLETING THE COURSE.
  1. MESSAGING DISCLOSURE: Student consents to North Star using prerecorded/artificial voice messages, telephone monitoring and recording of phone calls, text messages and/or automatic dialing equipment to communicate and memorialize communications with Student as the law allows. North Star may use any telephone number provided by Student to make such communications, regardless of whether the number is for a mobile telephone and/or using the number results in charges to Student.
  1. RECORDING NOTICE: North Star may create audio, video and/or audio/video recordings of Course sessions for purposes of offering Course make-up sessions or online versions of the Course and/or for purposes of marketing and advertising the Course or any other course offered by North Star. As a condition of Student being permitted access to the Course, Student consents to, and waives any claim arising out of, North Star’s use of Student’s name, likeness, image, voice, appearance, comments and questions in any such recordings for any and all such purposes.
  1. PRIVACY OF STUDENT INFORMATION: Information Student provides to North Star, whether in connection with registration or otherwise, shall be treated by North Star in accordance with the North Star Privacy Policy posted at https://www.northstarcomms.com/privacy-policy-2/.
  1. GOVERNING LAW AND JURISDICTION FOR DISPUTES: This Agreement shall be construed and enforced in accordance with the laws of the State of Connecticut, without regard to any of its conflict of law provisions that would require the application of the laws of another jurisdiction. Any suit, action or proceeding arising out of or relating to this Agreement may be commenced and maintained only in a court of competent subject matter jurisdiction in Fairfield County, Connecticut. Each Party waives any objection to jurisdiction and venue in such courts. The Parties expressly, knowingly and voluntarily waive any right to a trial by jury in any proceeding arising out of, relating to, and/or to enforce this Agreement.

I have reviewed the Student Enrollment Agreement and Release and all of the terms stated above and hereby agree to abide by those terms.
